So I’m sitting in a bar over in Tribeca a few days ago, and this caffeine infused, yet worried gentleman walks in, eager to sit down and get his lips on some tasty libation. As I watched his jittery-movements, amongst his other ADHD-like attributes, I over heard a conversation he was having, in which he unmasked his supreme knowledge of python, ruby on rails, php, and other various forms of coding. It wasn’t that hard to tell that this man a software programmer after that, but for whom? Me still being half the geek I used to be, happened to hop in the conversation and discovered that he worked for AOL. AO-WHo? In any event, after a short conversation about the history of AOL since broadband,(emphasis on the word short) he filled me in on a slew of sites and apps that AOL has been pulling the strings for. One particular favorite, Going.com, who has just released an amazing iPhone app. (if you haven’t figured it out by now, I’m an iPhone user and abuser.) The Going iPhone app, just like the site, keeps you filled in on the day to day events going on in most major cities across the U.S. With the same great use of functions like tagging your likenesses to establish which events you might want to be at  and location updates to see whats going on a block away from you, the app keeps you with no excuses for missing that massive pillow fight thats around the corner or maybe a really dope freebie concert.

In short, the Going.com and Myopenbar.com(seen a few post earlier) apps, are necessary to have in the recession survivors toolbox. They both can be obtained happily for the price of $Free.99 as well…. No excuses.
